Matt O’Grady
Guitar/Vocals (and sometimes drums)
Sound Clip 1
In
every band there is undoubtedly a player who distinguishes themselves
through their unique ability to adapt to every style and
genre the band has in their repertoire. And what’s more is that they
make it look sooooo easy! Matt O’Grady is that player for Fat Brass
Inc. When you watch Matt play, you will be mesmerized by his ability to
be perfectly comfortable playing a solo, a lead line for a tune or
shuckin’ and choppin’ in the groove.
Matt O’Grady,
Guitar/Vocals (and sometimes drums), is originally from
Green Bay, Wisconsin. Matt actually started out on the drums but
switched to the dark side and guitar after listening to “From The
Cradle”, the album by his holiness of guitar Eric Clapton. Ten years
later, Matt’s talents grace the likes of Fat Brass Inc., The Jazz
Savants, many local productions both amateur and professional and as a
percussionist with the Green Bay City Band. Matt also appears in local
bars as a solo singer/songwriter.
Matt also shares his talent as a private instructor, guest clinician at
many local high schools and as an instructor with the UW-Green Bay Jazz
camp during the summer. Matt was awarded a scholarship for study at the
Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific in 2005. He lists
his musical influences as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Doyle
Bramhall II. His favorite artists include Bob Dylan, The Wallflowers,
Oasis, Brad Mehldau, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, and most importantly for
his drumming…current FBI drummer Tony Giovannini!
Matt is a baseball nut and had a dream to be a Major League player,
hmmm…wonder what happened? He has decent hand-eye coordination (have
to…to be able to play the guitar)…I know!…he must throw like a girl!
Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn if he were standing next to the
thing…had three weeks to do it…and a road map of how to get there!
That’s got to be it! Matt also enjoys riding motorcycles (he copied
that from Tony and Chris), is a stunt pilot (that explains a lot!) and
enjoys Rocky Rococo’s Pizza!
