For those of you Fat Brass fans out there who happen to be
wondering where in the heck the band has gone…FEAR NOT! For we will be
with you…sooner or later. We have been doing a lot of rehearsing to
learn new tunes and expand the repertoire and we eagerly await the
return of our world famous keyboardist and lead singer Jamie Fletcher
from her hugely successful tour of Scandinavia and the sub-continent
currently in her final stop of Seoul, South Korea.
We are in the process of setting up dates for our Tour 2010. A lot of the dates need firming up so we can’t tell you WHEN the dates will be yet…but we can tell you is that we will be playing more festival type gigs and be making some repeat appearances at some of the Brass’ favorite spots from last year! Also, we are cultivating great relationships with well respected industry leaders and insiders in an attempt to broaden our variety of performance venues in order to attain our goal of reaching a more diverse audience and develop a stronger and more intimate relationship with music enthusiasts in the greater northeast Wisconsin area…whoops…slipped in to some corporate jargon there for a moment. So stay tuned…keep your eyes on the website for further schedule updates and we hope to see you out there enjoying the sweet, funky sounds of Fat Brass.
Once
again Fat Brass is sponsoring a basketball team this season! "We are
off to great start. So far we have won the first three games and have
been having a blast doing so!" says Chris Andersen. "This is only our
second year playing together as a team, and the chemistry is growing
with every basket made!" If you are in the area you can check out the
action and see them play at DePere High School on Wed. nights. You can
call Chris at 920-660-7312 for game times. Good luck with the rest of
the season gentlemen!!
This
past Friday, Fat Brass traveled to Gresham and The
Captain’s Cove for a show in conjunction with Vic Ferrari’s camping
weekend festivities. The crowd did not disappoint and neither did Fat
Brass. The drinks flowed as much as the music exploded, pushing the
masses higher and higher. The crowd stood right on top of the band (if
not in the band or draped on various band members) as if to say, 'funk
or else'. We funked and we funked hard, complete with Sharpie-markered
Band mascot, the gorgeous swaths of women hoarding the drums (of
course), rampant passing of autographed photos and signed drumsticks,
and the future-condition that the band must break into "Billy Jean" if
Jamie's going to wear that fedora and leather jacket.
As a band we would really like to thank Vic Ferrari for inviting us to perform. And most special thank you goes out to those who were there to enjoy the music! Your support and enthusiasm drives us as much as we drive you. So…thank you to everyone who stood directly in front of us (falling in to us, hanging on us, hitting on us) and partied like rock stars. Thanks to those who bought drinks for the band, asked for autographs…Heather, Leah and Teresa and everyone else…you know who you are. Thanks for all of the amazing comments we received both during and after the show and for all the invites to the after-parties. Sorry we couldn’t oblige, but we had another gig the following night!
We love you all… and hope to be seeing you next year!
Dateline…Saturday, July 18th. It was the first trip to the U.P. for Fat Brass. The tension in the air so thick you could cut it with a knife…or was that the humidity? The mood within the band was electric, the crowd was building to a frenzy and all involved could not wait to get the party started.
That’s
right…FBI came to the U.P. and we were glad we did. Hey
Squid, thanks for the brew man…sorry more of us couldn’t hang after the
show, but Kenny said he had a blast. We can’t wait to be back up to the
area…nice area and more importantly nice people. We want to thank
everyone who came out to the show for supporting live music. YOU(the
fans/music lovers) are the reason we do this and when we have people
who enjoy it, it makes it much more special for us. So thanks to all of
the Hogwild organizers, Ed from Next Mile for the kindness and BOC
productions for making the band sound awesome.
You know...just when you think you've seen it all...you're wrong! Fat Brass has never seen sausages with such rhythm and keen instinct for percussion…thanks to the Polish Sausage, Chorizo and the Bratwurst for coming up on stage and jamming with the band! They "grilled" us for pictures after the show and we had planned to send them photos of the performance, but we misplaced the email address…so if they are reading this, please re-send your email and we will "relish" the opportunity to get you the photos.
We hope to see you next year with some better weather and a lot more dancin’ beauties groovin’ to the funk!
On
the
weekend
of June 20th and 21st, Fat
Brass recorded a DVD
at the University of Wisconsin at Manitowoc. The DVD was a synergy
between Fat Brass and Mr. Robert Schulein and world renowned engineer
who is pioneering a new way of recording called bi-neural sound. Fat
Brass agreed to play “guinea pig” for Mr. Schulein and in turn we, as a
band, got a High-Def promo DVD.
The whole process was amazing for the band from start to
finish. The way in which Bob recorded the sound was unbelievable. We
can’t wait for you to experience the amazing sound quality the came
from 2 small microphones in his ears and the video that was shot in
High-Def. That’s right; the microphones he used for recording the sound
were in his ears. Also consider the fact the no instrument was “mic’d
up”. The only amplification used was for the guitars and keyboard
(their own amps) and also a small monitor speaker per singer in the
band. That’s it! All the horns and drums were recorded naturally! It
will blow your mind when he turns the camera. Why? Well, because
whatever he focuses the camera on plays in stereo and all other
instruments “shift” in the sound to where they would be with respect to
the camera.
“It’s like being on stage with the band. Right in front of them as if
they were performing just for you”, said Bob Schulein the recording
engineer. “I wanted to see if I could get a recording truly from the
listener’s point of view. That’s what this is intended to do. Wherever
the camera looks it’s like you, the listener, is looking that way to…so
naturally the sound would change based on what you were focusing on”.
Fat Brass would like to extend a warm ”thank you” to Mr.
Michael Arendt, for the use of the theatre. We also owe Robert Schulein
a huge debt of gratitude for shooting/recording the band. Also, Mr.
Andrew Schmitz, our lighting designer and Aubrey Wygralak for the great
pictures.
Clips from the video will be posted as soon as possible as
well as some “behind the scenes” video shot by our notorious leader
Chris Andersen. We’ll keep you posted as to the posting of the DVD
clips.
Friends, Romans, Countrymen…lend me your ears. Yes…we heard you! And…we have listened to you as well. Fat Brass has started working on material for a CD. That's right…a CD! There is no timetable yet set for recording said CD, but we have started on hashing out material to be recorded. One of the biggest questions we get on a regular basis is, "Do you guys have a CD"? Well, we will try to make this a reality. Stay tuned to the website for further updates!
Fat Brass is sponsoring Jason Kostichka again for the 2009 racing season! You can see Jason race at the 141 speedway in Francis Creek. It's a 1/4 mile asphalt track that has weekly racing Saturday nights at 7:00pm and the season starts May 16 and goes to the middle part of September. Jason drives in the super stock class. Depending on the class, speeds on the track can hit 85 miles per hour and laps times in the 12 second range.

Here's the latest update from Jason on his
racing season:
"I destroyed the car the first weekend of July. The car ahead of me
broke a rear end gear dropping all it’s gear lube right in front of me
while we were coming of turn 4. I ran through it, and it sent me and
the car following me straight into the wall. So, I wanted to continue
racing, but I had to make a decision to buy a different car to transfer
the good parts motor, transmission ect. Well, the class I was running
had low car counts and there are rumors that there will be changes to
the track. Maybe bigger or even dirt for next year, possibly different
classes. So,I did some research and decided to go a different route if
these changes were to happen. There is a dirt class that they started
running on the asphalt this year and I decided to go that route. They
are the IMCA northern sport mods. I bought a used bare chassis and
moved what I could from my super stock to this new car. And found every
extra penny I could spare and had to sell off whatever I couldn’t use
from the old car to buy parts to finish the new car. And the way the
economy is it took a little bit. Starting from scratch my brother a
buddy and I built this car in 4 weeks. From a bare chassis to finish,
including paint and graphics and with all the running around for parts
and research and favors it came out like a rocket right out the box. We
have had a couple rainouts so I’ve had it out 3 times so far. My worst
finish in the feature was 6th and last week won my heat, 4th in the
feature and we haven’t got exactly right yet. When I get organized I
will get you all your pictures, should be next week. As, for the other
guy who hit the wall he is still attempting to repair his car."
Fat Brass sponsored it's own basketball team during the 08-09 Men's Rec League. See ya next season!
